It is warming up in Florida which means we are spending more time outdoors with friends. Unfortunately, that usually involves some un-invited guest will show up and try to ruin your afternoon. It's a guest we are all familiar with living in The Villages® Community. Yes, if you are outside so are the mosquitoes. With all the diseases they carry this could be quite dangerous. Sometimes even the bug repellant also isn't enough to keep these flying nightmares away. One simple trick is to arm your landscaping with plants that naturally keep mosquitoes away.
Your yard will attract fewer mosquitoes and keep you more comfortable if you plant the following plants that mosquitoes can't stand:
Marigolds: These bright yellow and orange flowers not on beautiful splash hues in your yard but also have a smell that will repel mosquitos. Put plants in spots mosquitoes are most likely to try to enter such as doorways, windows, and porches. Bonus: they also keep other incest away that eat tomato plants.
Citronella: This is a common ingredient in popular repellents but can also be planted on the perimeter of your yard to keep out time unwanted guest. Mosquitoes are turned off from its strong smell. It is a perennial clumping grass that can be planted or put in large pots.
Lavender: Your yard will not only look beautiful and smell amazing, but it also keeps pesky gnats and mosquitos from crashing your outdoor fun. Bonus: Lavender is great to help relax you on a quiet evening.
